The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and the Ottawa Business Journal announced today that Kevin Ford, CEO of Calian Group Ltd is the recipient of the 2017 CEO of the Year Award, an honour bestowed upon an outstanding corporate leader in our community.

He is a true local and international ambassador for Ottawa”.
Calian Group Ltd. was founded in 1982 and employs over 2,800 people with offices and projects that span Canada, U.S. and international markets. The company’s capabilities are diverse with services delivered through two divisions: The Business and Technology Services (BTS) Division that includes the provision of business and technology services to industry, public and government in the health, training, engineering and IT services domains and Systems Engineering Division (SED) that designs and implements complex communication systems for many of the world’s space agencies, leading satellite manufacturers, operators and military customers.
Mr. Ford joined Calian as head of its business and technology services division in 2010 and was appointed as CEO in April 2015. Prior to joining Calian, Mr. Ford worked in professional services for over 30 years, including 11 years at IBM as a Partner in Global Business Services.
As CEO, Mr. Ford has led the effort to rebrand the company in the eyes of the public. The company changed its name from Calian Technologies to Calian Group, part of a marketing effort that aims to put the focus on the diverse offerings of the company.
In addition to growing the firm’s client base and redefining its brand, Mr. Ford also kickstarted a drive to expand through acquisitions. Since he came on board in 2010, Calian has bought five companies, four based here in Ottawa. Every deal has been a winner largely because the companies due diligence process that goes well beyond the balance sheet.
Most importantly, he guided the firm to the biggest contract win in its 35-year history – a renewed 12-year deal to provide health-care services to the Canadian Armed Forces. He is proud of the fact that Calian will be able to continue to provide health services to the military and welcomes the addition of Veterans and RCMP Since taking the reigns of the company, Calian’s stock has increased by over 60% which Mr. Ford credits to the amazing team at the company.
In addition to his role as CEO, Mr. Ford has coached hockey for 20 years, is the proud father of four sons and has been married for 31 years to his wife Marlene.
The CEO of the Year Award will be presented to Mr. Ford at the Best Ottawa Business Awards (The BOBs) Gala on November 15, 2017 at the Westin Ottawa.
